Locations Foundation Beautifies Local Schools in Spring 2024

Our Locations Foundation volunteers aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty—especially when it comes to making Hawaii’s public schools more colorful, tidy and inviting for keiki.

This spring, volunteers with our non-profit Locations Foundation pitched in to bring splashes of color and big smiles to two Oahu elementary schools. These events are just a few examples of the many volunteer activities the Foundation carries out across the island each year. From beach clean-ups to blood drives, the Foundation has provided Locations agents and employees with a trusted way to give back to the communities where we live, work and play for more than 35 years.

Chalking some cheer at Manoa Elementary School

On a breezy Saturday morning in March 2024, amidst the gentle pitter-patter of raindrops, the spirit of community and compassion shone brightly at Manoa Elementary School. Fourteen Locations Foundation members, including Locations Property Management and Hawai’i Mortgage Group employees, gathered for a heartfelt endeavor—marking the culmination of the school’s week-long American Heart Association activities with cheerful chalk drawings and encouraging words.

Armed with colorful chalk and boundless enthusiasm, the team decorated school walkways with uplifting messages, celebrating the spirit of giving and wellness. Despite the unpredictable weather, there was a collective sense of purpose as our dedicated volunteers chalked messages of hope, love and resilience—each stroke a symbol of positivity and a reminder of the power of community.

“Every year, the Locations Foundation helps a local elementary school to celebrate the conclusion of its American Heart Association week with our signature chalking event,” said Foundation President and Locations Partner Kristin Mukai. “It’s a chance for us to show our love and support for keiki who have worked hard all week to raise funds for a worthy cause and promote healthy habits.”

A fresh coat of color for Nu’uanu Elementary School

Foundation volunteers gathered bright and early on a Saturday in April to give the walls of Nu’uanu Elementary School a fresh coat of paint in partnership with local nonprofit Hawaii 3Rs. Brushes and rollers in hand, volunteers freshened up curbs in the school’s parking lot and corridors with a rainbow of vibrant paint colors.

Supporting education in communities across Hawaii is one of the four pillars of the Locations Foundation, so teaming up with Hawaii 3Rs, whose mission is: “Repairing, Remodeling and Restoring Our Schools,” was a natural fit.

“We hope that this beautification project not only serves to improve the physical appearance of Nu’uanu Elementary, but that it also brings a renewed sense of pride to students and faculty,” said Mukai. “By partnering with local organizations like Hawaii 3Rs, we’re helping to foster an engaging learning environment for our youngest citizens.”
