Q & A with Noa
Myers Briggs type: I fall under INTJ (“Architect” type). I love to find innovative solutions to complex problems.
Pet peeve: Being late (I am patient when others are late, but I hate when I’m late).
Go-to fix for a bad day: Get in the water, listen to Hawaiian music with friends or play basketball.
Morning person or night owl: I don’t sleep much. I get up at 4:30 a.m.,and go to sleep at 11 p.m. (and that’s slowing down for me!).
Communication method: I prefer in-person communication so that I can see someone’s body language. Body language is 70% of communication.
Inspiration: I admire my parents, as they had to work so hard when we were growing up. I lived in public housing, around gangs and drugs. Beginning when my sisters and I were young, my father volunteered as a youth sports coach and my mother taught kids how to read. My father is still coaching softball for girls ages 8 to 12. That’s probably where my love of coaching comes from.
Typical day: I wake up at 4:30 a.m., and my wife and I walk our dog and talk about what’s coming up. I then prepare breakfast for my kids and write three handwritten notes to my SOI (sphere of influence). I also send out three texts by 7:40 a.m. and call one person in my SOI by 7:45 a.m. Although this sounds like great prospecting, I really do it to start my day in gratitude. I find that starting this way allows me to slow down and be thankful for all I have. By 8 a.m., I’m on my way into the office to hold coaching sessions with agents and conduct trainings. By 4 p.m., it’s time to take my daughter to softball practice. After dinner and family time, I review my schedule and create my to-do list for the next day.
Hidden talent: I played the French horn from the 3rd Grade to 12th Grade, and recently at my daughter’s request, I accompanied her orchestra—I didn’t realize I could still play!
Three words that you describe you: Passionate, helpful and driven
Happiest when… I’m happiest when I’m working with young Locations agents in a large group. I feed off the energy they bring and the possibilities of success in their future. When I’m not at work, I’m happiest either in the water by myself or coaching softball or basketball.
Causes: I love dogs, and I support several different groups that help with rehoming dogs. I spent a long time as a Teen Director at the YMCA, so I also love working with youth at our church and coaching high school students.
Personal motto: I have two: “It is better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid, than to open it and remove all doubt,” by Mark Twain, and the leadership maxim “Constant Gentle Pressure.”
Coaching philosophy: I love coaching and personal development. I’ve dedicated my life to helping others become better themselves and build their character. I believe that better people make better business. I enjoy building relationships and trust with my agents, so they know that I have their best interests in mind. I also believe in telling the truth, even if it’s not what someone wants to hear. I embrace conflict and find that if I can have great conversations with agents, great solutions will follow. I believe that if I can get to know someone, I can figure out the best way to deliver an effective, helpful message to them.
How colleagues would describe you: I think they would describe me as driven. I hope they see me as disciplined; most know that I believe in hard work and that grit = passion + perseverance. Mainly, I hope they know that I just want everyone to succeed.
