Locations Foundation Celebrates Summer with Three Signature Volunteer Events

Our Locations Foundation volunteers have been busy serving the community this month, from serving up popcorn and smiles at the movies, to collecting gently used clothing and brand-new school supplies.

It may be summertime, but our Locations Foundation volunteers were hard at work this July, carrying out three of our long-standing and best-loved charity projects: Our 16th annual Movie Day, 11th annual Clothing Drive and 23rd annual Backpack to School Supply Drive. Read on to learn more about these signature Foundation events and see our event photos!

A Morning at the Movies

The Locations Foundation hosted its 16th annual Movie Day at Consolidated Theaters in Kahala, Saturday, July 6, 2024. This highly anticipated event brought together 15 Foundation volunteers and more than 150 children from Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawaii and Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii for a morning of fun, laughter and community spirit.

As the children and their chaperones arrived at the theater for a private screening of “Despicable Me 4,” they were greeted by smiling Foundation volunteers who passed out complimentary popcorn and fountain drinks—ensuring a perfect movie-going experience. Adding to the day’s excitement, Foundation President and Locations Partner Kristin Mukai presented each nonprofit organization with a $5,000 check to support their missions of providing local youth with enriching programming, safe gathering places and ongoing relationships with supportive adult mentors.

“The Foundation’s annual Movie Day holds a special place in my heart,” said Kristin, who has participated in the event for more than a decade. “It’s our immense pleasure to be able to brighten the day of these deserving keiki, and it’s truly a joy to hear their laughter echo throughout the theater!”

Thanks to the efforts of our caring volunteers, this year’s Locations Foundation Movie Day was a resounding success. Creating cherished memories and making a positive impact in our community are what the Foundation is all about!

Cleaning Out Closets for a Cause

Also in July, agents cleaned out their closets for a cause, the 11th Annual Locations Foundation Clothing Drive. In a remarkable showing of community spirit, we collected an impressive 3,111 pounds of gently used clothing, shoes, slippers, and linens, which will be equally distributed between two of the Foundation’s partner organizations, the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Hawaii and the Salvation Army Hawaiian and Pacific Island Division. These organizations both play crucial roles in supporting local families, and the contributions from this year’s clothing drive will make a significant impact on those in need across our community.

This year, we added an element of friendly competition to the drive, with a contest among our offices to see who could bring in the most clothing. The Pearlridge – Kapolei office team emerged victorious, earning a celebratory pau hana.

“We’re humbled by the generosity of our agents and employees,” said Anina Quaranto, Foundation Advisory Board member, clothing drive co-chair and Locations Partner. “This year’s clothing drive underscores the Foundation’s commitment to supporting our neighbors in need.”

The Locations Foundation Clothing Drive is Hawaii’s largest corporate-sponsored clothing drive and has donated nearly 60,000 pounds of clothing since 2011.

Sending Keiki Back to School in Style

Last week, the Foundation wrapped up its 23rd annual Backpack to School supply drive. Locations agents, employees and clients generously contributed much-need school supplies, like paper, composition books, pencils, and glue sticks. Next week, Foundation volunteers will gather to stuff 500 brand-new backpacks full of supplies and deliver them to our nonprofit partners, so students in need can be ready to start a new school year in style.

“In a time when so many local families are struggling to keep up with rising costs, Backpack to School takes one worry off the shoulders of parents and school-age children this summer by providing a new backpack full of supplies to help keiki succeed this school year,” said Devin Minardi, Foundation Advisory Board member and Realtor-Associate at Locations.

Since its inception in 2001, the Backpack to School drive has donated thousands of backpacks to children across Oahu, furthering the Foundation’s mission of supporting education and empowering youth. Together with our community and nonprofit partners, the Foundation is helping to create brighter futures for Hawaii’s keiki.

The Locations Foundation is at the core of our company values, and our commitment to “paying it forward” is reflected in all that we do as a firm and as individuals. We invite you to discover more about us by participating in an upcoming Foundation volunteer event. Contact us today to learn more!
