Learn, Earn, Return: Nathaniel Forbes' Story

As a new arrival to Hawaii in 2018, experienced Realtor Nathaniel Forbes knew what he was looking for in a brokerage, but he didn’t know where to find it. His search led him to Locations, where he found the programs and support he needed to build the career and relationships he’d envisioned.

Associate Partner and Realtor at Locations Nathaniel Forbes lives by the mantra “Learn, Earn, Return,” a philosophy he was introduced to by another agent early in his tenure at the company. Just as it sounds, this powerful three-word phrase means: “First we learn from each other, then we earn as our business grows and, finally, we pay it forward.”

Step 1: Learn

Although he was not new to real estate, Nathaniel was new to Hawaii and needed to quickly grow his sphere if he was going to build a successful career. With that in mind, he dove into learning as much as he could from his peers, sales coaches and mentors at Locations

He’s taken advantage of nearly all of the sales programs and opportunities Locations offers agents, including picking up shifts at retail locations, leveraging our established farming program, sitting open house for other agents and participating in Locations Leads (the online sales team formerly known as Broker’s MLS or “BMLS”). He also joined the sales team for Ulana Ward Village—one of the many recent new developments for which Locations has been the exclusive broker.

Step 2: Earn

Since joining Locations, Nathaniel has steadily gained more and more market share each year. In 2023, he was in the top five percent of all Oahu agents by number of transactions and in the top nine percent by sales volume. These are impressive stats by any standard, but even more so for someone who had no contacts in the islands just six years ago!

In addition to his sales successes, he’s earned more than 40 five-star reviews from clients, Locations’ prestigious Client Service Award and multiple Honolulu Board of Realtors® Aloha ‘Aina Realtor® Award nominations. He was also promoted to Associate Partner in early 2023—a goal he’d had since he first arrived at Locations.

Step 3: Return

While he’s still learning (and, of course, still earning), Nathaniel now relishes his ability to give back to his fellow Locations agents as a leader and mentor, sharing his knowledge with the “Greenies” in our new agent training program and helping to steer the future of the firm as a partner.

As a Locations Foundation Guardian Donor, he’s able to give back to his community, too. Like all Foundation donors, Nathaniel contributes a portion of his earnings each year to support local family- and child-focused non-profits. The greater his earnings, the greater his returns to the community!

Where are you in the “Learn, Earn, Return” cycle? If you’re feeling stuck in any of these phases, or you’d just like to be more intentional with your career and personal growth, take Nathaniel’s advice and “interview” several brokerages to see which one best aligns with your goals.
