Set Your Intentions for the Year With This Simple Yet Powerful Activity

Locations Partner and “Hawaii’s Best Realtor” Cari Tanabe creates a vision board—a visual representation of her goals—as part of her annual business planning and refers to it throughout the year to stay engaged and on track.

Every year, Locations agents create a vision board to set their goals for the year ahead as part of our annual business planning exercises. We asked Cari Tanabe to share how she approaches her board and how this easy and effective activity helps her to keep her eye on the prize(s!).

Q. Why make a vision board?

A vision board is a tangible and visual representation of my goals, and for me, it’s more motivating than making a list. I’m very visual, so pictures are more impactful, especially when it is in front of me on my home office board.

Seeing my vision board daily keeps me focused on what truly matters to me and is a constant visual cue to remind me of my priorities. The simple act of creating a board is fun, and it makes me think about what I want to achieve in the coming year.

Q. What do you include on your board?

I always include things I need to be reminded of, like self care, taking time to exercise and spending time with the people I love, because this industry can ask a lot of you and it’s important to find a healthy balance.

Q. Why do you think vision-boarding works for you?

The book The Secret really resonates with me! I’m a big believer in the Law of Attraction—being positive and grateful helps me get through the hardest days. My vision board works very similarly for me, because it’s a constant reminder of the things I want to achieve and attract in my life.

It’s very satisfying at the end of the year to know that I have hit most or all of my goals on my board, and it gives me more drive and motivation for the upcoming year.

Q. Have you fulfilled any of the goals on last year’s board?

I’ve been working on my self-healing, and spending quality time with my hubby and grandchildren! I’ve taken up pilates and built two classes per week into my schedule. I’m also on track to retire when I’m ready.

Q. Would you recommend vision-boarding to others?

Absolutely! Try it: You might be surprised at how it keeps you in check throughout the year, and you’ve got nothing to lose.

Legal & Financial Protection That Lowers Your Risk

Picture this: You close what seems like a smooth transaction. Weeks later, your client files a claim—alleging that a disclosure wasn’t handled correctly. The damages sought? $25,000. For many agents, that kind of surprise could derail a year of hard work. At Locations, we’ve built in protections to make sure you don’t face those challenges alone.

Policies That Put Agents First

In real estate, it’s often the behind-the-scenes safeguards that make the biggest difference. A strong offer or smooth escrow doesn’t just happen because of good intentions—it happens because systems are in place to protect everyone involved. At Locations, we’ve developed policies that work quietly in the background so agents can focus on their clients, knowing the brokerage has their back.
